We chat about our game plan, which involves some discussions of what kind of questions to ask and what to talk about. B: I got all this vacation saved up from last year. B: I’m an engineer, I work for , I grew up in BC but there’s a lot more jobs here. It’s busier than I expected, I thought it would be a smaller kind of thing. We have a bunch of stuff in the Middle East and it would be cool to work there and live there. B: Well I’ve been to Europe and Australia, which were both pretty cool, but I think I’m going to have to go with Tofino. There’s a lot of interesting places in the States to visit, people don’t think about it a lot. I have only gone out with her once, so what the hell am I thinking here??We also discuss a plan of using “voice memo” on our phones to record the conversations we have, so we can review them later. *ding ding* Girl #2 B: Hi I’m Bryan, how’s your night going? The beaches, the surfing, the West Coast Rainforests. I’m going to do a Scandinavian tour in the summer, I’ve been meaning to do that for awhile. So I am way too nice, and I think it actually comes across as a bit weird. Probably something like this: “I am sorry to hear you are having issues. We meet up in the Kinsmen parking lot, and go for a stroll on the South side of the river. B: Actually I quite like it out here, sunny in the winter and dry, not wet all the time or dark and dreary, you know. The call works quite well, and I find out she is in school for HR-type stuff, is currently dog-sitting, and is interested in meeting up the following week for a stroll in the River Valley. I tell her I will text her details for where to meet, and I do that as we approach the date. We have big projects in the Middle East, I’d like to start up some plants. I’m in catalytic reforming, we make gasoline, in the refinery. B: I was in Chicago last year and it was a lot of fun, yeah it’s a good place. I went for a couple weeks in high school actually, we had a track and field…ah…trip, so that was pretty cool. I suggest we meet up next week, a suggestion which she says she is quite interested in. B: Well more I want to go live in a different country, see what it’s like. B: Optimizing catalyst, making sure the plant is running, etc. I’ve got some vacation saved up so I’m going to burn it all, I’ve got about 6 weeks. G: Some key places to visit, New York, some other stuff. She really doesn’t give the opportunity for a hug though, which is not a great sign, but I let it slide and that is that. This year though I’m planning on going to Scandinavia for the summer. I had a friend go there last year who said it was pretty awesome. When we get back to the parking lot, I walk her to her car with the plan of a hug to end things. B: You find one thing in common and start talking about it, and then it’s over. I’m hoping to get a job in the Middle East or somewhere overseas, you know in a couple of years, for whatever, something temporary. B: Yeah, the last couple of years I haven’t really been, I’ve been busy working, but before that I’ve been to Europe a couple of times, Australia, and some of the States. I was pretty young then though, so it was different. She is also pretty, active and intelligent, and I feel some decent chemistry.

B: You know, since I’ve left BC, when I go back there to visit, it kind of feels like going backwards in a way. Since I want to learn more, I send her an email asking her to help me out. Now at the end of the day it sounds like things wouldn’t work between us anyway, but the key thing I take from this is that I need to get my more edgy, flirty side out there as quickly as possible.

G: It’s so embarrassing, but I’ve never been to BC. Well I kind of figured this was happening, but still it’s too bad. Makes sense, and that first date certainly hurt things.

G: Went to high school in Alberta, went to school here. G: I have lots of friends that are working in Saudi. *ding ding* B: Good talking to you Girl #6 B: Hi, I’m Bryan. I don’t have a great feeling about this, and it’s confirmed when she replies back saying I’m a cool guy, but she just wants to be friends. I definitely understand the romantic connection, and she also mentions to flirt a little more.

Well, I like trying new things, and this is certainly new. I talk to my buddy Cory, and we decide we’ll hit up a “Travel Lovers” Speed Dating event, offered by Fastlife. As I work on setting something up for the following week, she tells me that she is struggling with some issues and isn’t bringing her best self forward at this time, so she can’t continue at that point.

The website looks pretty professional, so I throw my in and I am registered. which is a bit older than I would like, but the timing works out for both of us. I am disappointed, and unfortunately at this point in the conversation I have also been doing a bit of drinking.
